AND NOW...A HORROR STORY ABOUT BRIDAL REGISTRIES

I wasn't too thrilled about buying off a bridal registry, but I did anyway out of love for my niece. My wife and I traveled to the department store and got lost several times trying to find the place. Traffic was bad and it was raining all night. When we finally got there, we waited nearly a half hour to get a clerk's attention so we could go through the process and just pick a gift and go home.

When the clerk looked up the name of the bride and groom, they couldn't find it on the computer. So we made that whole trip for nothing. Turns out the bride and groom registered in three different stores and my wife misunderstood the name.





The Ordeal Gets Worse
The next morning we found the correct store. I was already in a bad mood so it didn't help me much to see the gift list and notice that all the gifts were over two hundred dollars. The cheapest one I could find was some kind of silver clock for a $150.00. I don't have that kind of money to spend on wedding gifts. I finally just agreed to buy it, since my wife and I were exhausted from the two-day ordeal.

Then it turns out the store didn't have the clock. They were out of stock. So I made that trip for nothing, as well. I looked around the store and all of the other items were ridiculously priced. I referred back to the gift list and saw a coffee table was one of the selected items. Finally I said, “Fine, I'll buy that one.” The coffee table was in stock and it was $299.00! Some kind of fancy coffee table from Asia or something.

Luggage
Luggage is very attractive! It reminds us that we're going on vacation and traveling far away from our problems for a few weeks. Buying the gift of luggage is a very safe gift and yet it's among the most practical gifts the couple will ever receive. Chances are, the younger the bride and groom, the less likely they have high quality luggage.





What Gift List?
The gift list made no indication that the prices were so high. I decided to just buy whatever I saw in the store that was reasonable and not choose anything from the all-important list. I bought some wineglasses and of course, when I asked for the discount, my niece assured me I would get it, but the store informed me I would have to pay full price.

That ended up costing me $90.00 for something that I could have bought elsewhere for half the cost. I won't even tell you the story about how I forgot the wineglasses at home the day of the big wedding and had to drive back in evening traffic to go get them.

Here's The Point
Wall shelves will be adored by women and appreciated by men, who have hardly thought of decorating the living room but will be impressed by the idea. Best of all, they are usually available in several different colors so that they will complement your living room color scheme nicely.

By the time I spoke to my niece again, she was upset that I didn't buy anything on the list. I apologized but by then I really didn't mean it. Now I hear there's a way of ordering bridal gifts online and sending them through the mail. If I ever try a bridal registry again then it sounds much more convenient to do it that way. All I wanted to do in the first place was point, click and boom. There's your present.
